PRE-JULY 1999 NEWS

C&C 3D Review
IGN64 has posted their review of Command and Conquer for N64. An overall score of 7.6 is very good in my opinion for a four year old game with a few makeovers. I have played the PSX C&C and I can say the controls are very difficult to manage after playing the PC version. Full review here.

Tiberian Sun Weather
There will be a number of 'weather' effects that add element of random chaos to the game. Meteor strikes can cause massive amounts of damage to units and structures, and spawn new Tiberium fields around the crater where the meteor hits. Deadly ion storms, which can last for minutes, rain powerful bolts of lightning down on the map and render units that employ advanced technology; stealth units for instance, ineffective. Tiberium itself forms another part of the environment. It now comes in standard green and new blue. Blue Tiberium is rarer and more potent, and therefore worth a lot more. It is also extremely explosive. Enough so that and ore collector loaded with it will be, in essence, a 'mobile nuke'. Even fields of uncollected blue Tiberium may be set off in chain reactions by certain events/units, although that means throwing away an awful lot of resources.

Updates
There aren't many leagues for C&C remaining so I'll update that pretty quickly. There are a lot of new Multiplay Services though. (Most aren't for C&C, but they are useful for other games, and maybe TS and other C&C games in the future). Text Files also need to be created.

RPG News
[Warning, not at all related to C&C] RPGs own. There is a LOT of good news for RPG fans like myself today. First, some possible news on Chrono Trigger 2?!

There seem to be some pretty convincing rumors of a Chrono Trigger sequel flying around these past few days. Reportedly, posters for Legend of Mana indicate that a demo of a game called "Chrono Cross" is being included with the fourth Seiken Densetsu title. In addition, Square has put their best and brightest on a new mystery project, to be announced July 14, the day before Legend of Mana's release. All of this information does not mean that Chrono Cross is a sequel to Chrono Trigger, however, the rumors are quite intriguing.

Next, some news on FF7.

Whether you hate it or love it, you have to admit that Final Fantasy VII has been one the best selling PlayStation titles. Now it is official, as Sony of America has added it to the list of "Greatest Hits". As a result, Final Fantasy VII will now be available for $25 or less. So now, if you've been afraid to buy it because of the mixed reviews, at least you won't be out so much cash.

And now some news on FFVIII, Dreamcast, Suikoden 2, and Vandal Hearts 2!!!!!!!

Konami has set the US release date for Suikoden 2 back to September 7th. Yes, that's right, it will go head-to-head with Final Fantasy VIII. While it could mean an early death for Suikoden 2, its also possible this move is being orchestrated by Sony in order to take advantage of the Dreamcast's initial lack of RPGs (the first Dreamcast RPGs are slated to reach the US in December.)
Also on the Konami front, new details have been revealed about Vandal Hearts 2. Vandal Hearts 2, like its predecessor will be set in a medieval world. A new "simultaneous turn-based system" allows the computer to move at the same time as the player, adding more realism to the game. Vandal Hearts features over 120 differnet weapons and armor to choose from, each with their own secret moves, and "mind-blowing" spell and specialized attack animations. Although an official release date has not been set for the US release, several sources are hinting at a late 1999/early 2000 date.

Updates
The C&C Series is now updated and more accurate without my former views and opinions.

Quote of the Day
"Airplanes are interesting toys but of no military value."
-Marechal Ferdinand Foch (1851-1929), Professor of Strategy, Ecole Superieure de Guerre.

6-28-99:

Last Word on Suikoden
Well, it took me 4 days (22 hours of playing), but I finally beat this GREAT game by Konami. It's a classic just like C&C.

Updates
Yesterday I was VERY busy, and it wasn't all because of Suikoden. I am going to do the C&C Series and maybe Leagues. Poll should be in the near future.

Quote of the Day
"Fancy thinking the Beast was something you could hunt and kill! You knew, didn't you? I'm part of you? Close, close, close! I'm the reason why it's no go? Why things are what they are?"
-William Golding (1911-1993), Lord of the Flies

Relevancy: GDI and the world sees Nod as the Beast. GDI is blind to the fact that they are just as evil as Nod in their use of violence. Although their intentions seem good, to others they are evil, and "good" is only a vision for the bettering of themselves through the pain of others.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

COMMAND & CONQUER TIBERIAN SUN COLLECTOR'S EDITION ANNOUNCED

Fans Who Pre-Order Will Get Limited Edition of 1999's Most Anticipated Game

LAS VEGAS, NV, JUNE 18, 1999 - Westwood Studios today announced that fans who pre-order Command & Conquer Tiberian Sun from Babbage's, Electronics Boutique and from the Electronic Arts order line (1-888-212-1702) will get a limited release collector's edition version of the most highly anticipated game of 1999.

The collector's edition will include a manual signed by the development team and a hand-crafted pewter figurine of either a Nod or GDI soldier. The collector's edition box will coated in silver foil and numbered. It will not be available after the game ships in late summer.

"The collector's edition is for the devoted Command & Conquer fans who have waited so patiently for the sequel to one of the most popular game of all time," said Laura Miele, vice president of marketing for Westwood Studios.

Tiberian Sun promises to push the boundaries of the real-time strategy genre by giving players a more realistic, more dangerous battlefield, new high-tech weapons with unique abilities, troops that gain experience and learn new skills, new tactics (long range bombardment, sabotage, and espionage) and unlimited multiplay experiences thanks to a battle map generator.

Set in the early 21st century, the real-time strategy game pits the Global Defense Initiative (GDI) against the Brotherhood of NOD in a struggle for control of the planet. With an epic storyline that unfolds as play progresses, players will learn the reasons behind the worldwide outbreak of Tiberium and what happened to the notorious NOD leader Kane, who was presumed dead at the end of the first Command & Conquer.

Important Note
C&C is approaching it's 4th Anniversary. The amount of news for this game is practically non-existent. My point is that The Obelisk's news section in the future will very often focus on other things that I find interesting and want to share, e.g. Suikoden. Sometimes there will be Tiberian Sun news, like today. If there is some news on the original, perfect game C&C or its add-on Covert Ops, please send it in if I haven't posted it already. Thank You.

6-24-99:

Suikoden!
Although not related to C&C in any way, I thought I'd mention the awesome PSX game Suikoden. :p

Hitbox
I've added my Hitbox Stats to the sidebar on every page. You are free to look at them. In June my hits have gone way way up as a result of updating heh.

Kane Interview
Looks like CGW has an interview with Joe Kucan, aka Kane. It's short but interesting. Click here.

Change of Plans
Ok, Strats are on hold. Some sections are DESPERATE for an update. Tomorrow expect updates in: C&C Series, Comparison, Leagues, Multiplay Services, and Patches.

6-23-99:
Editors have been up since 6-21. Strats are under construction..but will take some time. I'd like to point out how this site will transform in the near future. My first goal is to complete all the sections. After that, I will fix up some of the ridiculously outdated sections, like the Comparison and C&C Series, and fix things like the Patches section. Once all this is completed, then I will begin adding new sections, like perhaps Wavs and Mp3s.. Also, today we have some real news!

Command & Conquer sets record
"...The Command & Conquer line of strategy war games, which was developed by Westwood Studios, sold more than 5 million units between it's release in 1995 and June 1997. The line includes the original Command & Conquer for MS-DOS, Windows 95, Macintosh, Sony Playstation, and Sega Saturn; The Covert Operations; and Command & Conquer Red Alert - the prequel to Command & Conquer and once the fastest-selling computer game in history..."

C&C Future!
ChristianK: Is Westwood (or EA) thinking of a "Command and Conquer 4" (after TiberianTwilight)?
Aaron [Cohen, PR-Manager]: Yes.
ChristianK: What is with a "Command and Conquer" movie? Are there existing any plans?
Aaron: We're in negotiations right now. We're very very in the process, but we are working on it.

All good news!

6-21-99: Um, eh. Working on Editors now, Strategies soon. Launch today/tomorrow I hope.

6-19-99: Ok, I'm familiar with here now. I'm hoping to launch today. In other news, if you have actual news related to C&C then please tell me. Also, here is my current objective: Editors, Screenshots, and Strategies. I'll work on all three until they are all done. BTW, Screenshots are updated. I took about 10 shots today. Don't forget I have my agenda list on the bottom of this page. Wraaaaa

6-18-99: Here I am at Planet C&C. The required banner is atop every page, click it sometimes folks. Everything is uploaded and working I think. I still have to figure this cdrom mirror thing out. =\ Anyway, I said I was going to make some more Screenshots, but thats on delay for a little while I think. I'm really interested in creating the Strategy page. It will take time but it should be fun. BTW, it seems Hypercam doesn't work in old C&C. =(

6-17-99: I spent an hour fixing the links section. I searched everywhere for working Tiberian Dawn sites. The ones you see are pretty much the only remaining C&C sites that are worth going to. There are some other Tiberian Dawn sites, but they are either very bad or just link everything to the old Temple of the Conquerer and/or Data Downlink, so those sites are worthless. Meanwhile, I just totally pwned on the Covert Op mission C&C:Under Siege. I should have used Hypercam or something. Screenshots section to be updated later maybe.

6-16-99: Hey. See, I'm gonna update daily. I know what you're thinking. "This old layout is lame and makes you look like a lame webmaster." Well, this page is dedicated to a classic game and I think the layout reflects that. It's very easy to use and fast loading, and it's been this way since day one. Anyways, for now I'm just going to fix up a few things like broken links/images. Tomorrow I'm looking to create many more screenshots of fun.

6-15-99: Wow. I just beat that Nod Mission 7 in Central African Republic. Silly Bazookaman in the village. You can't stop my 3r337 0rCa!

Bitch Bazookaman!

What's this? The diplo-annual update is a week early? Well, Planet C&C just opened! I recently departed from the community of Team Fortress. Now I've rejoined the Command and Conquer Universe with renewed interest in C&C, RA, and the August 27th release of Tiberian Sun. This time I'm for real. It's summertime and I have a true valid reason for a return. My online history has been similar to Europe's. My old C&C memories mirror the prosperity and knowledge of the Greeks, my early warez days were my own Pax Romana, and later was the fall of Rome. Team Fortress was like the Dark and Middle Ages, starting bleak but improving through time. And now is the Renaissance. The Greek and Roman knowledge is reborn in a novus et urbanus Obelisk.

12-22-98: Hello. I'm Arc. You may remember Anarch from 10 months ago. He gradually strayed from the site due to low interest in Tiberian Dawn and the final closing of Temple of the Conquerer. Well I'm here to attempt to finish this site and generate a few hits back around here. I once ran a site averaging 2000 hits a day, but that was my primetime. I've joined the new Hitbox, created this news, and plan on grabbing a Quizlet for the poll. Now I've got to play this C&C which I haven't played in ages. Chao.
